"Every town should have one"
With 12.4 million people living below the poverty line in the UK, the need to feed those in crisis across the UK is real. That is why we with the Trussell Trust are committed to setting up the Foodbank network
The network mobilises churches to set up their own foodbanks, empowering them to reach out to their local communities. We provide training, support, an operating manual and access to the foodbank network's shared ideas and experience.
In 7 years almost 100 foodbanks have been launched. In 2010/2011 the network has fed 60,000 people UK wide compared to 41,000 last year. 20-30% of this increase is due to the recession. 760 schools and 800 churches plus shoppers at 200 supermarkets throughout the UK help to donate food to the Foodbank Network. This year Gloucester Foodbank has 7 collections at 3 supermarkets for further information please go to the collections page.
Is there a foodbank in your town? Could you start a foodbank? Why not

'This project has a lot in its favour - the fact that people can easily get involved, that it brings churches together to make a difference, that the difference is immediate, and that those who seek assistance find personal and prayerful support - it is a model which I hope to see spread more widely throughout the country.' John Sentamu, The Archbishop of York
